Original lyrics
ENGentle mama,
Sing a lullaby ; your child cries
Rock him in the cradle and tell him lies,
For soon enough the danger will call him
To the front lines.
Where everything's as beautiful as it seems
His future is a field of flowers
Planted with mines !
Oh listen
To the mountain's fury,
To the raging wind,
To the ocean, weary
Of the poisonin'
When the rains come down,
Feel the tears of the earth
Oh listen!
Yes, a mother's heart is beating, inside the earth,
While her children rape the body that gave them birth.
How can we ask forgiveness after
Tha damage is done,
When we cannot ask the forest for a moment's shade,
Though every day of sun cuts like a razorblade -
And we cannot ask the river for water - If she has done !?
Oh listen !...
To the mountain's fury,
To the raging wind,
To the ocean, weary
Of the poisonin'
When the rains come down,
Feel the tears of the earth
Let the soldiers
Stagger home - Let every weapon rust
Let our hearts be healed of hatred, fear and mistrust
May the children learn from their elder's
Near-fatal mistakes...
And listen...
To the mountain's fury,
To the raging wind,
To the ocean, weary
Of the poisonin'
When the rains come down,
Feel the tears of the earth
