Dark was the night and cold was the ground I rose deep from my sleep Dark was the night and cold was the ground The Devil is comin' for me Dark was the night and cold was the ground Straining for my eyes to see Dark was the night and cold was the ground Gasping with my lungs to breathe Sing the song they gave you Sing it 'til you're free Dark was the night and froze was the ground Crunchin' underneath my feet Freedom in my sights, can't never turn around For fear what I may meet Meet the one who made you Or meet eternity Dark was the night and cold was the ground Trouble falling down like hail Dark was the night and cold was the ground A hellhound's on my trail Who is left to save you? Who will set you free? Fork's in the road with the spoon and the knife Not a plate in sight for me Winds are a risin', the crow is a flyin' Leaves tremblin' on the trees Shed the name they gave you Shed it to be free Dark was the night and cold was the ground Straining for my eyes to see Dark was the night and cold was the ground The day that I broke free
