Songtext von The Way Things Were

Throwing rocks at trains along the railroad tracks Dead-end kids who'd slipped between the cracks We spent our time getting high, we did our best to get by And we said goodbye to the way things were No one said that life would be so hard So I planned out my escape with an old guitar I wrote a song with a stolen riff, if you ain't got a song, you ain't got shit And we said goodbye to the way things were Sometimes I think of when we were young, we didn't have a care Sometimes I wish that life would just stand still We lit the fire when it all began, then we watched it all burn down again And we said goodbye to the way things were Sometimes I think of when we were young, we didn't have a care I wanna go back to a simpler place and time As the night falls, we shed a tear watching all our freedoms disappear And we said goodbye to the way things were It was surely a stroke of luck now that I found love And I didn't know how fortunate that I was I said I'd hold on to that girl till it's time to leave this world And we said goodbye to the way things were Sometimes I think of when we were young, we didn't have a care Why do all good things come to an end? Seems like it was just yesterday, the flame of youth was never here to stay And we said goodbye to the way things were And we said goodbye to the way things were And we said goodbye to the way things were
