Original lyrics
ENSaturday night we got married
Me and my wife settled down
Now me and my wife are parted
I'm gonna take another stroll downtown
Irene goodnight, Irene goodnight
Goodnight Irene, goodnight Irene
Irene you were in my dreams
Sometimes I live in the country bay
Sometimes I live in town
Sometimes I take a great notion
To jump in the river and drown
Refrão
Stop rambling, stop your gambling
Stop stayin' out at night
Go home to your wife and family
Stay there to your fireside bright
