When I was young Yearning to be free I never cared How hard the road might be I left my home For dreams I don't recall For I was young And knew it all The tree grows green And blossoms in the spring When its roots are deep and strong A man may dream But when his heart needs peace Then his roots will lead him home I'm older now And at last I see Held by my roots My spirit can be free To stand again Where my fathers stood I feel a love I never thought I would I am the sum Of all their many parts The roots grow deep Inside my heart The road will bend And every journey end Where the heart knows it belongs So through this life I'll travel far and wide Then my roots will lead me home The road will bend And every journey end Then my roots will lead me home
